ROOTS AND ROUTES

Migration Stories of Our Elders

Roots and Routes is an intergenerational, community-based storytelling program that documents and celebrates the migration journeys of seniors. The program recognizes migration stories as powerful expressions of resilience, contribution, and belonging, while addressing social isolation and strengthening intergenerational connection.

Through guided interviews, photographs, maps, and personal artifacts, seniors collaborate with youth and trained volunteers to document their experiences of migration, settlement, and adaptation. These stories are shared through interactive digital or physical exhibits that honour seniors’ lived experiences and deepen community understanding of cultural diversity, diaspora, and shared history.

OBJECTIVES

HOW IT WORKS

Elders are interviewed by youth or trained facilitators. Stories are transformed into an online interactive map and physical exhibitions in libraries and community halls.
